Elite Scotland eligible players: who is in & who is out?

2 weeks ago, we published the list of the 19 best multi-eligibility talents who are Scotland eligible. National squads for the forthcoming international break have been announced. Hence, we analyse which of those Scotland eligible players seem closer & which seem further away from being 100% tied to Scotland.

Goalkeepers

Chris Brady

Age22
ClubChicago Fire
SMNT youth caps0
Other eligibilityUSA

The first of the Scotland eligible players we cover is Chris Brady. Brady is one of 4 GKs in Mauricio Pochettino’s 28 man squad for the forthcoming international break. Matt Turner’s omission from that squad elevates Brady to #2. Matt Freese is #1. These USA games are non-competitive meaning that even if Brady plays, he will retain his multi-eligibility status.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. As stated before, we have seen no indication that Chris Brady is interested in playing for Scotland. There is no change to that.

Ben Vickery

Age17
ClubManchester City
SMNT youth caps1
Other eligibilityEngland

Vickery is in the latest England U17 Squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Since he switched allegiance from Scotland to England, there has been no indication so far of him switching back to Scotland.

Fullbacks

Cam Williams

Age17
ClubLiverpool
SMNT youth caps15
Other eligibilityEngland

Williams’ name is missing from the Scottish squad lists for the forthcoming internationals. However, nor is he in any of the England squads. Williams has had recurring left & right quad injuries over the last 12+ months. Further, he has played only once this season for Liverpool U18s, specifically on 15th August. However, he hasn’t played in any of their 4 games since. He regrettably seems injured again. Get well soon Cam.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Great as it would be to see Williams putting his injuries in the past, that hasn’t happened yet. He remains until further notice most recently associated with the Scotland setup.

Centre Backs

Dan Armer

Age18
ClubManchester United
Scotland youth caps7
Other eligibilityEngland

18-year-old Armer is named for the first time in the Scotland U21 squad. That is a fast track well up from his U19 age group. Quirks of the age group system, mean other players named in that squad include 22 year olds such as Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen & Dire Mebude.

Fast tracking Armer is smart work by the U21s boss, Tony Docherty. This fast tracking clearly signals to young Armer that he is considered a genuine full cap Scotland prospect. Armer had an excellent pre-season with Manchester United’s first team. Will this be the season of his Manchester United first team debut? Will this be the season of his full Scotland debut?

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: Improved. While Armer still very much has multi-eligibility status, the indications are that those in the Scotland recognise the value in working on tying Armer to be eligible only for Scotland.

Dara Jikiemi

Age16
ClubLiverpool
Scotland youth caps4
Other eligibilityNigeria

Jikiemi isn’t showing up on any stats sites since his Summer transfer to Liverpool. Nor has he any game time listed on the Liverpool FC website. That is potentially why he isn’t named in any of the latest Scotland squads. That is a speculative comment. Nor can we find him mentioned in a Nigeria age group squad this month.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: Apparently none & still most recently associated with the Scotland setup, in which he has captained his side.

Ben Nelson

Scotland youth capsDisputed (0 according to transfermarkt, 1 according to worldfootball.net)
Other eligibilityEngland

Ben Nelson will miss most of this season due to ACL injury (get well soon Ben). That injury scuppered his transfer chances in the summer. Both Manchester City & United were reported interested in him.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Until further notice he remains most recently associated with the England setup.

Midfield

Jack Fletcher

Age19
ClubManchester United
Scotland youth caps3
Other eligibilityEngland

Jack Fletcher as expected is in the latest England U20 squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None.

Tyler Fletcher

Age19
ClubManchester United
Scotland youth caps22
Other eligibilityEngland

Tyler Fletcher unlike his twin mentioned above, Jack, is again in the Scotland setup. Specifically Tyler is in Tony Docherty’s U21 squad. While that is a step back from his being in the World Cup squad after replacing Billy Gilmour, Fletcher doesn’t appear any closer to club first team football this season so far compared to last season. Specifically, the only MUFC 1st team squads Fletcher has been in this season are once in the Champions League & once in the League Cup. Like Armer, Fletcher playing U21 is above his age group.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. While Fletcher has stepped back from the Scotland first team, he has previously verbally stated that he has committed to Scotland for life.

Kyle Glasgow

Age16
ClubAlloa (on loan from Rangers)
Scotland youth caps9
Other eligibilityPortugal

Kyle Glasgow is similar to Armer. Namely, Glasgow is fast tracked for his first appearance in the Scotland U21 squad. For 16 year old Glasgow that is even further above his respective age group than 18 year old Armer’s. In Glasgow’s case, that fast tracking is to prevent the Portuguese age group people coming back for him like they did earlier this year.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Again though, the Scotland setup are clearly targeting locking Glasgow into playing only for Scotland.

Archie Gray

Archie Gray is in the latest England U21 squad. That is as expected.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None.

Hayden Hackney

Other eligibilityEngland

It was suggested by some that Hackney could be a newcomer to the new era of the Scotland setup. However, he isn’t in Pocognoli’s squad. Pocognoli did though take questions about Hackney & Harvey Barnes in the press conference in which he announced his squad. He stated that the door is never closed to anyone eligible. He also though made the point that he isn’t going to run after them or anyone else to play for Scotland.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: NONE. Hackney was in the England U21s squad that won the Euros in 2025. There is no indication that he is switching allegiance back to Scotland. Further, he hasn’t yet been in a senior England squad.

Jack McGrath

Age17
ClubAston Villa
Scotland youth caps5
Other eligibilityEngland

This seems a strange one. Specifically, 18-year-old Dan Armer & 16 year-old Kyle Glasgow have both been fast tracked to the Scotland U21s. Why hasn’t Jack McGrath? There must be a reason behind that given McGrath, 18 next month, age wise is nearer to the U21s than Glasgow, & has played a couple of games this season for Villa U21s

McGrath is one of the very best prospects in Europe. It is thus a big call to suggest Glasgow is a hotter prospect than McGrath. Further, McGrath seems on track to fulfil his potential. His stats are tremendous including playing for Villa U21s. Such is his ability, this website has advocated on multiple occasions that Jack McGrath should be in the senior Scotland squad.

McGrath’s reaction to seeing 16 year Glasgow’s name in the Scotland U21s would be very interesting. McGrath in contrast to Glasgow is again named in the Scotland U19s squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None, & hopefully no alienation from being overlooked for Scotland U21s.

Keir McMeekin

Age16
ClubManchester City
Scotland youth caps6
Other eligibilityEngland / Northern Ireland

McMeekin hasn’t been in a Scotland age group squad since England attempted to poach him in February. That has continued with the latest Scotland squads. Nor though has he appeared any squads for any other nations. That includes the latest England age group development squads nor the U21 squad that the English FA named in a separate announcement. Nor is he in the Northern Ireland squads at U17, U19, U21 nor senior level.

Man City signed him from Hearts in the Summer to join the Man City U18 squad. However, according to besoccer.com, McMeekin so far hasn’t played in any Man City U18 games. We can’t find an indication that he is injured. Potentially he simply isn’t being selected from being a new 16 year old to a group of U18 players that is very strong in depth.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None that we can so far discern.

Tyrese Noubissie

Age17
ClubStrasbourg
Scotland youth caps0
Other eligibilityCameroon / England / France

Noubissie previously played for France at age group level. However, he is in the latest England U18 squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None.

Harvey Barnes

Scotland youth caps0
Other eligibilityEngland

As mentioned in our preceding version of this article, fitba.scot has no expectation of Harvey Barnes ever being interested in playing for Scotland. That continues to be borne out. Specifically, Barnes is not in Pocognoli’s squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Nor do we expect that to change.

Zion Pullan

Age15
ClubCeltic
Scotland youth caps5
Other eligibilityNigeria, Spain

Pullan isn’t in any of the latest Spain age group squads. Nor though is he in any of the latest Scotland age group squads. Read into that as you will.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. His most recent involvement is with Spain after switching to them in May.

Strikers

Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri

Age16
ClubManchester City
Scotland youth caps12
Other eligibilityEngland, Jamaica

Cadamarteri subbed on in the 74th min for Man City U18s on 15 August, winning 2-1 against Liverpool. He has not featured for them since. Nor has he featured for their EDS side this season.

Cadamarteri had been playing U19s for Scotland despite being 16 years old. Prior to that he played a couple of games for the England U16s. However, Jamaica persuaded him to join their first team squad for the Unity Cup in June. His elder brother, Bailey, is already an established Jamaica international. Cadamarteri didn’t play any match minutes at that tournament. At the time Caelan’s father, ex-Dundee Utd forward Danny Cadamarteri, stated in social media:

“He’s not tied to anyone so it’s just good experiences for him till he’s old enough to make a committed decision.”

Caelan Cadamarteri is under 21 years of age. Hence, he would have to play 4 first team games for one nation of which at least one must be competitive, to be tied solely to that nation. Jamaica have 4 Nations League games in the forthcoming international break. However, Caelan Cadamarteri is not in that Jamaica squad. Nor is he in an international squad for the forthcoming international break for either Scotland or England.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. It’s difficult to imagine that if he was fit, the Scots wouldn’t have attempted to call him up. The same applies to Jamaica, with whom he is most recently associated. There is though uncertainty over Cadamarteri’s current international allegiance. Prolific goal scorers like Cadamarteri will always be in-demand.

Harry Gray

Age17
ClubSheffield Wednesday (on loan from Leeds United)
Scotland youth caps0
Other eligibilityEngland

Harry Gray as expected is in the latest England U19 squad.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Longer term though, who knows? It is well documented he is a Scotland fan & occasional Tartan Army member.

Lorenzo Sassetti

Age15
ClubDundee United
Scotland youth caps6
Other eligibilityItaly

The last of the Scotland eligible players we cover is Lorenzo Sassetti. Sassetti subbed on after 56 mins for Italy U16s on Thursday when thumped at home 5-1 by Spain. He played 90 mins 2 days earlier in the 1-1 draw for Italy against the same opposition.

SCOTLAND COMMITMENT STATUS CHANGE: None. Italian media describe him as a generational talent. His switching allegiance back to Scotland doesn’t look likely soon.
