Robbie Ure has started the Swedish domestic season in electrifying form. He has 7 goals and an assist in 8 games. Should Ure be called up by Steve Clarke for consideration for the World Cup squad?

Robbie Ure form this season
The Swedish domestic football season formally reconvened in February. The 1st 3 games played were the 4 team group stages of the 2025/26 Swedish Cup. Sirius finished top of their group with 3 wins. Those 3 games included wins over 2 teams from Sweden’s 2nd tier, Sundsvall (6-0) and Helsingborg (4-1). Ure scored 1 and 2 goals respectively in those comfortable wins over lower division clubs. Ure was again on target in the 2-1 win v fellow top tier side, Elfsborg.
Then came the knockout stages. 1st up were Göteborg in the quarterfinals. Sirius progressed with the only goal scored being Isak Bjerkebo’s extra time penalty. Then came a thriller semi-final trip to Hammarby. Ure was on target again, in the 3-3 AET draw. Hammarby went through in the shoot-out. Misses by 2 teammates, meant Ure was denied the opportunity to prove himself with a spot kick.
Sirius’ 2026 Swedish league season is 3 games old. Top of the league, they are the only team still to have a 100%-win record. Ure scored in the opening 2 games away versus Degerfors (3-0) and 2-0 at home to Hammarby. Yesterday he notched his 1st assist of the season, winning 4-1 v Västerås.
How strong is Sweden’s top tier?
The Swedish top tier Opta ranked 26th globally is considerably higher than the Scots top tier (currently ranked 39th), in which Lawrence Shankland plays. 26th is significantly lower than the likes of Tommy Conway, Lyndon Dykes, George Hirst, Oli McBurnie, & Ross Stewart playing in England’s 2nd tier (currently ranked 9th globally by Opta). Che Adams & Kieron Bowie in Serie A, of course play at a further higher Opta ranked level (4th globally). Oli Burke (superb break away goal yesterday by him), playing in the Bundesliga plays club football at the currently highest Opta ranked division of any male Scot playing as a striker.
Robbie Ure club form before this season
Ure’s output this season, is a continuation of good form in his debut season in Sweden. Ure notched 11 goals in 30 league appearances last season for Sirius. His 11 strikes placed him 6th equal for the season in the Sweden’s top scoring chart. He also notched 4 league assists last season.
Robbie Ure is a Rangers youth academy product. He then signed for Brussels based outfit, Anderlecht. In 2 seasons there, he made 1 solitary 1st team appearance. He acquitted himself reasonably well playing for Anderlecht under-23s, who play in the 2nd tier of the Belgian football pyramid. In 38 appearances, he scored 11 and assist 4 goals in Belgium’s 2nd tier.
Robbie Ure for Scotland?
Ure currently is uncapped at full international level. Perhaps surprisingly, he has no Scotland under 21 caps to his name, despite still being eligible for Scott Gemmill at that level. Ure has 2 goals in 5 appearances for the under-19s. He currently also has international eligibility via a grandparent to play for Ukraine.
Steve Clarke’s mantra is loyalty to players established in his squad. Clarke though did pull a rabbit out of the hat, selecting winger Findlay Curtis for the March internationals. Counting against Ure, is that most of the strikers in & around Clarke’s squad play club football at a higher level. The only striker regarded as a natural finisher though, who seems in contention for the plane to USA, is Shankland, playing at a lower level than Ure. Hence while it seems unlikely Robbie Ure will receive an SMNT call up this side of the World Cup, who knows? What if he continues or even improves his current strike rate in Sweden?
