Zion Pullan: Exciting prolific winger back in a Scots squad

Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Zion Pullan’s goals & assists stats playing age group football for Celtic are mind-blowing. However, worryingly for Scotland fans, Spain poached him to their set up in May. Encouragingly, though, the SFA announced Zion Pullan yesterday in the latest U16 Scotland squad. Details are below of this very welcome development.

Zion Pullan background

Zion Pullan was born to Nigerian parents in Tudela in Spain’s Basque region. Subsequently raised in Scotland, he turned 15 in February. Last season Pullan tallied an eye-popping 93 Celtic goal involvements at U15 & U17 level; 58 goals and 35 assists.

Reports state he typically plays on the left allowing him to cut in to shoot with his favoured right foot. He is also able to play CF. His greatest attributes unsurprisingly given his G/A stats, are explosive attacking play & prolific goal scoring. In late July he scored 6 mins into his Celtic U19 debut. He is among the very brightest international eligibility players who are potential full Scotland internationalists.

Pullan is interesting scouts at Athletic Bilbao, whose policy he meets of only signing players born or raised in the Basque region.

He has 148 minutes to his name from 5 Scotland U15s games, scoring once (against Italy in May). However, he subsequently later in May also played for Spain in a 2-1 comeback win against France. Pullan subbed off at HT of the 40 mins per half U15 game. He was unused from the bench 2 days later in a 2-1 defeat to the same opposition. He has not played international football since. Form your own opinion of that.

Pullan’s latest international call up

Yesterday the SFA announced the Scotland U16 squad for the Football Federations Cup later this month in Türkiye. The excellent & encouraging news for Scotland fans is that Zion Pullan’s name is included, reflecting that he is yet again in a Scotland squad.

The SFA announcement also states:

“The Netherlands will be the first opponents for the young team on Wednesday, 28 October, before two further matches on Saturday, 31 October and Tuesday, 3 November.”

“The opponents for these final two matches will be determined by previous results, with Portugal, Ukraine, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Switzerland all potential opponents.”

Zion Pullan’s Scotland recall is especially welcome after the sobering news this week regarding David Odunukan.
