Wikipedia among other sources claims Liam Delap Scotland eligibility due to a grandparent from Perth. That claim seems to be percolating across some parts of the internet. Is that claim in those sources true or false? We explore the evidence & try to ascertain the facts.

Liam Delap Scotland eligibility on Wikipedia
An edit was made to Delap’s Wikipedia page on 20 November 2025 claiming Liam Delap is eligible for Scotland. Yet the supporting citation from rte.ie that was added to the Wikipedia edit, does not mention Scotland. The same addition to Wikipedia included this supplementary comment:
Delap’s maternal grandmother is from Perth, Perth & Kinross.
That claim, though, did not include a supporting citation. There have been edits since to that Wikipedia page, removing the claim related to Perth. That Wikipedia page currently looks like this:

Iconpolls article
On searching the web, this iconpolls.com article on Liam Delap from March, claims both Liam Delap Scotland eligibility & that he has a maternal grandmother from Perth.

That article though doesn’t give a source for those claims. The article was published in March when Wikipedia published claims related to both Scotland & Perth. While not guaranteed, it is possible iconpolls published the Perth & Scotland claims based on the assumption that the claims on Wikipedia are accurate.
The Last Word on Sports
The Last Word on Sports, in May made the claim re Scotland eligibility, again without citing a source.

The claim in Nottingham Forest News

Nottingham Forest News yesterday published, Four facts you might not know about Liam Delap ahead of possible Nottingham Forest transfer. One of the 4 facts they claim is, “Delap is eligible to play for three countries“. Again, though no source is provided.
Steps to verify if Liam Delap Scotland eligibility is factual
We emailed the Nottingham Forest media team 4 days ago asking for help to clear this question up. As of yet we have not received a reply.
We will thus endeavour to contact Liam directly to ask if he can help clear this up. We will also contact the other outlets mentioned to ask if they can clarify their sources.
If Delap was to be eligible for Scotland, he would prospectively be a great addition to Seb Pocognoli‘s squad. That said, it’s worth remembering the level of involvement Delap has had in the England youth setup: 38 caps. Further, his dad, Rory Delap, gained 11 full caps for the Republic of Ireland. Hence, even if Delap were to be Scotland eligible, he doesn’t seem a high candidate to switch allegiance to Scotland.
