The Scotland World Cup 2026 campaign is over, as is the reign of Steve Clarke. Some players have likely played their last game for the Scotland Men’s National Team (SMNT). However, which players seem like options that the soon-to-be-appointed new boss could call-up? Following our look at potential Scotland midfielder call-ups, we next look at possible Scotland wingers for call-up.
Scotland wingers in the World Cup squad
Before the main part of the article, this is a brief summary of Scotland wingers who went to the World Cup. Stats are as at 15 July 2026.
Findlay Curtis

The first of the Scotland wingers we touch on who went to the World Cup is Findlay Curtis. Brief World Cup sub appearances versus Haiti & Brazil have taken 19-year-old Curtis to 5 caps. Derek McInnes’ appointment as new Rangers boss and his preference for Scots in his team, may help Curtis attain first team minutes there in the season ahead.
Ben Gannon-Doak

Ben Gannon-Doak went to the World Cup where much was hoped of him, but for all his speed, little was delivered. He is now on 17 SMNT caps & at 20 is a year older than Curtis. He is undoubtedly quick and as per his Nations League game against Croatia’s Joško Gvardiol, he can cause issues for even the best FB. However, his injury record is a major worry. And too often when he does play, does his output justify the hype?
Additional Scotland wingers to call-up?
Oli Burke

| Age | 29 |
| Full Scotland caps | 13 |
| Age group Scotland caps | 18 |
| Year of last full cap | 2020 (away v Israel) |
| Current club | Union Berlin |
| Current club division | German 1st tier |
| Club division Opta rating | 86.0 (4th globally) |
Burke could just as easily be listed in the soon to follow article on Strikers, given that is the position he has played most recently.
There are fast footballers, and then there is Oli Burke. Measured last season at the 2nd quickest speed recorded by any player in Bundesliga history, he is clearly a top drawer sprinter. To see that speed at its greatest effect, watch him in this video eat his opponent for breakfast in a foot race before scoring, at 4 mins 52 secs into this video.
That speed worries opposition defences, forcing them to drop back & defend deeper, thus leaving more exploitable space for his teammates. For all his athleticism, though, his output such as this fantastic goal & this hat trick are frustratingly too infrequent. Hence why he hasn’t been in an SMNT squad for approaching 6 years.
However, with an incoming new Scotland boss, Burke must surely see that is a fresh window of opportunity. If a football boss somewhere can figure out the optimal tactics & position from which to optimise his output, Burke could be an asset that genuinely terrifies opponents. If Burke impresses in the new season with Union Berlin, a recall could be coming his way.
Ben House
| Age | 27 |
| Full Scotland caps | 0 |
| Age group Scotland caps | 2 |
| Year of last full cap | N/A |
| Current club | Lincoln City |
| Current club division | English 2nd tier |
| Club division Opta rating | 82.0 (7th globally) |
This is admittedly a longer shot. Ben House, though, was among the Scots trio last season to help propel Lincoln to promotion to the English 2nd tier. The 2 others were now 30-year-old ex-Falkirk player, Conor McGrandles, & now 20-year-old Ryan Oné who was on a 1/2 season loan from Sheffield Utd.
Lincoln romped away to win the division with 103 points, 12 points ahead of 2nd placed Cardiff. That has earned the Imps a place in England’s 2nd tier for the first time, since their relegation 65 years ago in 1961.
House has a couple of Scotland U21 caps. Fotmob rated him 7.03 last season in Lincoln’s successful promotion campaign. Opta typically rate the English 3rd tier that he played in last season, as at the same level as the Scots top tier. Hence, given some people suggested Calvin Miller’s Falkirk performances below were worthy of a call-up, then why not also consider House?
Let’s see how much he impresses this coming season, in the elevated division that he is scheduled to feature in.
Emilio Lawrence
| Age | 20 |
| Full Scotland caps | 0 |
| Age group Scotland caps | 8 |
| Year of last full cap | N/A |
| Current club | Manchester City |
| Current club division | English 1st tier |
| Club division Opta rating | 91.6 (1st globally) |
Lawrence qualifies for Scotland via his mum, Claudette, hailing from Lanarkshire. He spent a decade as a striker in the Everton youth setup, impressing so much that in October 2022, Manchester City swooped for his services.
In the City youth setup under Brian Barry-Murphy, he was developed as a wide player. However, he needed surgery & suffered a year out of action due to a serious shoulder injury incurred in 2024.
Lawrence’s comeback
As part of his comeback, Lawrence went on loan for the 2nd half of last season to Luton Town in England’s 3rd tier, pursuing first team experience. Consequently, that appears to have been an excellent decision.
Initially, he struggled resulting in him being dropped from the Luton first team squad. Commendably though in the face of this test of character, he stuck at it & worked at his game. After earning a recall to the Luton first team, he quickly impressed. Consequently, in the last 17 games of the season, he scored 2 & assisted 3.
One of his goals was the equaliser in the Football Trophy Final 3-1 win against Stockport County. Playing in front of 49,000 fans in that game at Wembley gave him useful big match experience. Match highlights are here.
Should Emilio Lawrence have gone to the World Cup instead of Findlay Curtis? Regardless, Transferfeed currently report that Lawrence impressed Luton boss, Jack Wilshere, sufficiently that he wants to re-sign Lawrence for the season ahead.
Transferfeed also report that Cardiff (now a division higher in England’s 2nd tier after their promotion last season), are also potentially interested in Lawrence’s signature. Brian Barry-Murphy mentioned above in Lawrence’s development at City, is the current Cardiff boss who led them to promotion last season.
Calvin Miller
| Age | 28 |
| Full Scotland caps | 0 |
| Age group Scotland caps | 33 |
| Year of last full cap | N/A |
| Current club | Heart of Midlothian |
| Current club division | Scots 1st tier |
| Club division Opta rating | 75.3 (43rd globally) |
Calvin Miller early in his career played LW, before re-training when at Celtic as a LB. He was among the most lauded Falkirk players last season, when they finished 6th in their first season after promotion back to the top-flight. Fotmob rated his performances in that league campaign at 6.93. He notched 7 goals & 9 assists last season.
Miller transferred in the Summer to Hearts. He thus prospectively has the opportunity as per Kieron Bowie last season at Hibs, to show what he can do in the season ahead against European defences. It would be quite a story if Miller were to attain an SMNT cap, given that in his post-Celtic journey, he played season 2023/24 in Scotland’s 3rd tier.
Lewis Morgan

| Age | 29 |
| Full Scotland caps | 7 |
| Age group Scotland caps | 9 |
| Year of last full cap | 2024 (home v Portugal) |
| Current club | San Diego FC |
| Current club division | US 1st tier |
| Club division Opta rating | 78.0 (18th globally) * |
The last of the potential Scotland wingers we profile is Lewis Morgan. Morgan subbed on in all 7 of his SMNT appearances. He hits 30 during the time of the next camp, during which it will also be 23 months since his previous SMNT cap. Given fotmob currently rate him 6.19 for the current MLS season, his recall seems unlikely.
Which Scotland wingers are likeliest to be called up?
Like in our other articles in this series, a huge amount depends on who the incoming new Scotland boss is. Regardless of who that is, it would be a major shock if Ben Gannon-Doak is fit & not selected. The ‘if fit’ part in his case is regrettably a huge question mark. Specifically, he has one of the worst injury records of anyone in the squad. That is especially worrying given how young he is.
Otherwise, if the new boss calls up 2 wingers, there’s very much places up for grabs. Burke’s ultra high speed, low output puzzle is a puzzle worth solving, if it can be solved. IF Lawrence does move to the English 2nd tier & impresses, that would push him up the queue. September though may come too soon for him. It remains to be seen how much playing time each player is given, and how much they impress after the season starts.
